THE MBTI® PRACTITIONERS CORNER
A. QUALIFYING PROGRAMS
The test publisher is the qualifying agent as to who may purchase and administer
their psychological instruments with the guidance of the American Psychological
Association standards. In 1983 the first publisher-approved Qualifying Program
for the MBTI® Inventory was offered. There are now 8 designated providers.
For a list of providers contact: www.cpp.com/qual/worklist.asp
All practitioners of the MBTI® Inventory are encouraged to attend a Qualifying
Program as many who qualify through a tests and measurement course have not
had a grounding in either psychological type or the MBTI® Inventory.
The Qualifying Programs are designed to give the practitioner the minimum knowledge
considered necessary to begin administering and interpreting. Growing expertise
comes with experience and continued learning.
B. THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Representatives from each of the Qualifying Programs met for several years
to develop the Certification Program which would encourage practitioners towards
advanced learning and would develop a body of recognized advanced practitioners
who could be referred as such.

contact the MBTI® certification administrator at 866 526.6284.
C. Membership in the Association for Psychological Type (APT)
APT is the membership association for practitioners of the MBTI® assessment
and all those who are interested in psychological type. It promotes the
practical application and ethical use of psychological type and provides continuing
learning through conferences, local chapter and regional programs,
the quarterly Bulletin of Psychological Type and the MBTI® research journal.
For
membership requirements, extensive membership services, and networking see
www.aptinternational.org.
D. Ethical Guidelines for Administration and Interpretation of the MBTI® assessment.
"First,
and foremost, 'person-to-person' feedback between the practitioner and the
client is required. The interpretation session must be scheduled before
the client receives his or her personal results." —from Interpretation
Requirements for the MBTI® assessment by Jeffrey Hayes, Sr. Vice
President, CPP, Inc. and Naomi L. Quenk, Vice Chair, Myers & Briggs
Foundation. Bulletin
of Psychological Type, Vol 26, No. 2, Spring, 2003, p. 22 and Vol. 26, No. 3,
pp.41-43. This document explains the rationale for these ethical standards.

Other
instruments might use the structure and names for the sixteen
types but if anything other than the authentic MBTI® instrument
was
used the results are not MBTI® types or preferences and should
not be presented as such. In addition, a person-to-person
feedback
between practitioner and client is important and the interpretation
session should be scheduled before the client receives the results. |
