DISCOVER FINANCIAL SERVICES LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT II WORKSHOP
During 2002, the Leadership Development Team from Discover
Financial Services rolled out their Leadership Development II
Workshop. This program was the culmination of over two years of
research, design, and development. The workshop was designed to
incorporate and support the values of Discover: Doing the Right Thing,
Innovation, Simplicity, Collaboration, Openness, Volunteerism,
Enthusiasm, and Respect.
This workshop consisted of two days of training and facilitation. The
major portion of the workshop focused on the MBTI, with 90% of
the workshop focusing on the individual and 10% on the team. The
Leadership Development Team trained 32 facilitators and provided
26 workshops that included 354 managers. An internal certification
program was instituted that included over 128 hours of MBTI®training
for each facilitator.
An integral part of the workshop was combining the MBTI®with a
360 degree survey. This 360 survey is based on the management
competencies unique to Discover. All 360 competencies were
correlated to the Jungian mental processes of the MBTI.
The greatest measure of the program’s success
were the requests from participants to provide the workshop experience to their
subordinates
conducting team building activities. These requests provide support
of a continued effort on the part of the management team of Discover
to invest in the development of their employees.
Sample of responses from recipients:
"I am more aware of how I am perceived
by others and I am also conscious of the various personalities and the best way
to communicatae
with each type."
"More understanding of the perspectives from
where another person sees things. Approaching persons with a better understanding
of their personality and priorities.
Also more clear understanding of my own perspectives and motivations."
